I need to hack about 6 inches off my 60 and it's going to be a bear to get it into the chop saw.

I vote for a Dremel tool with a mini-cutoff wheel......
Seriously though, how about a metal cutting blade in a 7 1/4" hand saw. That would fit quite nicely.....

time to go get that wormdrive skil saw, you know you want it! I agree with Andy I think that will give you the straitest cleanest cut. That little shop where you got your drill press had several of them hanging on the wall. When he tells you a price know that he will take at least 20% less.

what's the difference between a worm drive saw and a regular circular saw?
I am definately not going to torch this housing. Way too much money to lose if I mess up.

Worm drives generally have more power, but I've never needed more than my little Skil Saw could deliver. I think I paid like $40 for mine.

Worm drives are gear driven (worm gears to be exact) and the motors are perpendicular to the axis of the blade. They genrally have more power/torque than direct drive circular saws.
Also, you might want to consider one of those handheld bandsaws. Might not get you the straightest cut in the world though. You can rent a milwalkee from HD.

I have a 13 amp worm drive saw and some metal cutting blades if you want to use. I am in Concord however I will be up that way on Monday, I could drop off for you. This will give you a much straighter cut thab a porta-band will.
