View Full Version : exo cage for XJ???

hey guys, I remember seeing a parts dealer that is coming out with a commercially made exo cage for the XJ. But now I can't find the ad or the company that sells it. Does anyone know? Thanks.
Trying to decide if I want to spend the cash on a bender, and make it myself. Or just buy the prebent cage.

I think it was Olympic... looked like a yellow jungle gym, IIRC.

Anybody know what happened with that Olympic external cage? I saw it on ONE jeep, and never saw it for sale...

repairing body damage would probably be cheaper than buying that cage, plus you look like a pansy being like ooohh noo im so protective of my paint when im 4wding that i need a cage to make me feel secure.

X2, hey dip you ever hear of a rollover....I think a little cage work around my head aint a bad Idea, I like the idea of being able to lay the rig over and justkeep grinding on the cage work

Yea I've always liked the c-rok cage, but I also was interested in the olympic cage since it seemed to cover areas that get scraped a lot, and wouldn't look too bad if painted to match the vehicle, or just plain black. I'll most likely end up with a c-rok cage later on, but I was just wondering. Does anyone have any pictures other than c-rok himself with a c-rok cage? I'd like to get a big picture of a 4 door cage. I've seen it on the site, but it's too small to make out the details.

My suggestion is get a bender and do it yourself. Take the opportunty to beef up your unibody and also make it just the way you want it.

I saw the olympic cage at the vendor show during easter jeep the year past last. It wasn't very impressive. They used pretty thin wall tubing and I could literally push the cage against the body in sections. The c-rok looks like a good one if you don't have the skills to fab your own.

Greg (C-Rok) flipped his over backwards in a hot-tub in Moab last year maybe? Anyways, he landed HARD on the roof (think falling on your roof from 10' to 14' high!), he winched it out and drove the rest of the weekend. Albiet not completely unscathed, he did bang the body up some and break some glass but the point is the roof stayed intact and upright. We've all seen picks and vids of peoples rigs DESTOYED from weak/inadaquet cages on minor rolls. C-ROK gets high points from me.

Why yes, that is precisely the yellow jungle gym to which I was referring. Billy "Pic-Man" comes through again!

Dude I'm so glad you told me about that. I didn't think it would be weak enough to push against the body... what a piece. Anyway, does ANYONE have pictures of a c-rok cage on a 4 door?

goto www.c-rok.com under the products header click on cage and you will see a white 4-door XJ exo-cage.

That seems a little bit more extreme than a c-rok cage. Did he add on to it?
xjcrawlr
July 14th, 2005, 14:46
His is tied into this Warn front bumper and has a tire carrier mounted to the exo, but otherwise thats the c-rok exo-cage. Theon did remove the piece that goes vertically from the roof to the rocker rail between the doors because he flopped it and it bent into the pass rear door enough that the door couldn't open.

I saw that he also added a piece to the quarter panels making them "metal flares" Over all I really liked how his came out, especially since it's a 4 door, and painted black. Adding on to the c-rok cage shouldn't be hard right?

Looking at the olympic cage a litte more closely, the rear part where the "ladder" is isn't even lined up correctly. As in, those step bars aren't parallel with the body lines... What an investment

right now IM in the process of building a 2001 in pristine condition into a trail rig. For a customer. Im either gonna cage it inside or outside, and now leaning towards exo, to try to keep the body in decent shape for a little longer. Also the cage work if done right you can lay it over and still drive it without damage.

I think that would be the best route, and coolest :D Can't wait to see what your cage ends up looking like.

I will bend it up myself. I do like a bunch of the features of the C-rok unit and will be using a halo upper like theirs. tied to the protofab tube style bumpers and 1/4" bent rocker guards. I do like c-roks gutter clamp stiffening system.
I thought I would rubber spacers bolted throught the roof etc with steel reinforcing panels on the inside. That would help absorb impact and transfer the stress throught the entire rig. do the roof a pillar, under doors at rocker guards, rear hatch pillar etc.

This exo looks do able. I want to slide between trees and such with ease, plus this would help out with a full roll over. Does front tube tie into front bumper?

according to his website, the cage ties into both the front and rear bumpers, as well as the rocker guards

Then they shouldn't mind if I build mine similer to their design. I think I will move top outer tube (fore and aft) out and a little lower so it helps protect the side as well as the top. 2 1/2 years old? It works for me:sunshine:

Protect the body and keep it looking good longer?!? I don't see the point -- because now you have this horrible looking jungle gym surrounding the vehicle - doesn't that defeat the purpose of keeping it looking good? It looks like one of those homo Land Rover Defender 110's.

First time I've heard of a LR 110 referred to as "homo". There are sooo many other vehicles that deserve that moniker, but a 110? I'm going to be chuckling about this all night.

Mine is to strengthen the structure and protect the body. Not to keep it looking good, but to keep my glass in place, doors closing etc.

Yeah, I broke the Jeep grill and I had a GMC one lying around. I grabbed it and held it up and it was too close to not put it on. It just matches the GM steering column. It keeps getting pieces broken off of it but it's behind bars now so I can't really change it.
