No go from 1991 Cherokee

I have a 1991 cherokee that goes no where. Motor runs good but tranny or transfer case does not work. Will not move in any gear, but grinds when put into park. Do not know where to start to find out what is wrong with it. If you have any suggestions let me know. Thanks

from your description... it sounds like the transfer case... does it hold the vehicle when it is in park and roll when in neutral?

While in park it will not hold from rolling, that is why I think it is the transfercase. Do you know if them are gear driven.

I know when i had my driveshaft out when i cut my output shaft for the transfer case, i put the jeep in gear so the shaft would spin to get everything even.. well i let it slow down in nuetral and then put it in park and it grinded a bit.. so check and make sure that you actually have a driveshaft in there?
