v8 in 2wd

would it be possible to put a 350 v8 in a two wheel drive xj? i dont know how the 2wd ones are setup but i know on the 4wd that u need 3 inches of lift for clearance of the oil pan.

A V8 in a 2wd XJ should be "easy", since as you correctly stated there are no clearance issues as there are in the 4wd XJs requiring 3" of lift. The thing is how do you get it inspected?

there isnt any emision laws where i live so it really wouldnt be a issue

novak makes a swap kit and they swear you can squeeze an lt1 in a stock cherokee.. i beg to differ however.. at 6 .5 inches of lift i had to relocate my steering stabilzer because it stabbed the oilpan an left a real nice hole.
