Ok, so just got $500 of play money and im trying to decide if I should do JCR winch bumper, SYE and Driveshaft, or Wheels and rock sliders. I kinda think I should do the big ticket items first. I have a 98 Xj, with about 4 inches of lift, stock tires right now...but my 31x13.50 TSL SX's are sitting in the garage right now. I do have a winch, I just need something to mount it to.
So question number one, what would you do?
question number two, what is the absolute BEST PRICE anyone has seen or heard of for an SYE and a CD Driveshaft? Can it be done for $500 or less?
Let me know. Derek

I went with Tom Woods...I had a 231 TC....500 up front 100 back with the retrun of the usable TC main shaft. I did the install myself. The only regrets was not throwing a new TC chain in while I had the TC apart.

CV Driveshaft

So for 385 plus a little shipping from PORC you get what you want.
Thats the cheapest that I could find.
I went with a used front shaft for $60
Rebuilt the used shaft for $90
Then had to have it retubed because it was to short. Another $80 or so.
So for $220 I have a rear shaft with shorter splines than the ebay one.

I'm in the same boat, looking for an inexpensive SYE front drive shaft combo and found this on EBAY:

Does this look like a good deal? he says they are from 4 liter with np231 but did not know the year.
I have a 2000 with np231 tc.
Thanks,
Jeff.

Hack n Tap and a front driveshaft is probably the cheapest way to do it effectively. Cost me right around $200 with everything included.

PORC offers free shipping on thier sye kit, so 385 total., not bad

I did mine with an Advanced Adapters hd sye($200), and used a stock front driveshaft I pulled from the yard for $30 bucks. So I had it done for under $250 which would give you some money to play with still. However, PORC hd sye and a stock front shaft would be the cheapest way to go.

Rusty's had a pretty good deal on the Advanced Adapter and Tom Wood's shaft, $480. They charge a lot for shipping though, and they sent me a driveshaft that was too long...
I have bought some stuff from PORC and they were great to deal with. My buddy just got a TerraFlex Super short Adapter and a Tom Woods for a good price too (for his TJ). I'll ask him where he got it from.

So I am picking up that you use a front shaft from a Cherokee. Someone said something about retubing it. Would this need to be done for every front shaft, or just some? What year of shaft would I be looking for? Would it need to be shortened or lengthened?
I thought somewhere I saw a Hack N Tap was like $187 or something like that?

Rusty's... Advanced Adapters SYE and Tom Woods CV driveshaft. $520 shipped. If you tell them the correct information, you *should* get the right length driveshaft, mine was fine.

Absolute lowest price I found on a SYE, and I searched to the farthest reaches of the internet:
http://www.4wheelerssupply.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/71505
and they had it to me in 3 days, free shipping RULES when it's fast too!
Got a front driveshaft from the JY, $25
fresh u joints and a rebuilt double cardan from my buddy at the local driveshaft shop $32 (his cost on parts and free labor, bought him a case of Heineken for his trouble, this is the only part I really scored a super deal on)
$216 total and it all works perfectly!

Tom Woods service is outstanding, I have his heavy duty (32 spline) SYE and drive shaft. Sweet thing about Tom Woods is if you ever have to lengthen or shorten the drive shaft you send it to him and its $67 (I think that's the number).
