View Full Version : How did you find NAXJA?

I was up wheeling today thinking about this and I honestly can not remember how I found NAXJA.

It got me thinking about the rest of you though...How did you come to find NAXJA? Word of mouth? Internet search?

i am guessing it was an internet search, but I honestly do not remember either.

I can't remember it either. I found it for the first time during the summer of 2004, when I was planning to buy a car. I found the NAXJA site, which helped me decide on a five-speed XJ. I ended up not buying a vehicle that summer, and forgot about NAXJA. In the fall of 2005, I had saved up some money and found a local five-speed XJ for sale in my price range. I remembered NAXJA, re-registered at the forum, read all I could in the next few days before going to look at the Jeep, and ended up buying it. I became a member two months later.

A lot of the people that started it came from the XJ-List I remember when it all started just didn’t join back then.

My yota friend showed me while helping me install a powertrax in my new xj. He has some toyota related screen name. Didn't realize NAXJA 's power until a year or so later.

It was a hard found internet search.

I searched several times looking for lift kit instructions. (I got my lift used) I was looking for everything I found here. The little things that you don't think about when installing 6.5'' springs. Shit like DW (which I overcame) and HD track bars.

What the hell kinda name is Naxja btw?

It didn't come up for ever. Then finally I think I came across Opie's page, and it began.

There were actually other people out there like me. XJ enthusiast's.

I didn't even notice peoples names were in red for the first month. As soon as I noticed I sent in my money.

I found NAXJA shortly after I got my first XJ (1987 four-door, it's now slated for Project: REDSHIFT,) and I found out about it from an internet search. I didn't know they were called XJ's then, so I probably did something like "Jeep Cherokee" +Tech, or something like that.

It's been six or seven years now, so I don't remember more than that. However, I've been a paid member more often than not, I think, and I now have four XJ's (five to-day - but it's parts by the time I'm done... I'll post up what's available once I get that far - but the hood and roof are mine, the transmission and transfer case are also mine, and I'll be taking the engine as well... The door shells should be available - they'd make good starts for half-doors, but I'd not use them when appearance is a factor. D30/D35, stock steering, it should be good for some spares once I'm done...)

Jim, (ILLXJ) got me hooked.

I work with Jim. Every night, he'd be sitting at the puter for hours. All I knew at that point was he was on "a jeep site". Well, I got curious and started trolling a little on my own. I started asking Jim all sorts of Q's about his rig and what not. He offered to take me on a little wheeling trip on some of his mom's ground here locally. That was probably what really got me hooked. At that time my only vehicle was an S-10. I kinda started noticing XJ's for sale here and there. Jim mentioned Winterfest was comming up before too long. Well, I'll cut the story short; I bought an XJ and had the lift installed before WF. I had a blast at WF and meet some great people to boot. I have been hooked ever since. S-10 is gone, I got tired of the wyfe bitching about insuring two vehicles for me, one of which I never drove anymore.

I took my (former) XJ out "wheelin" and the 4wd wasn't working, barely got out. I didn't know jack about axles and whatnot, but I found NAXJA on an internet search and was quickly informed that the vacuum disco had probably just come loose, which was correct. That was about 5 years ago, on the old board.

Best I can recall I found the link back in early or mid 1999 from Jeepin.com. Found JU first, didn't much like it. Then found Jeepin and it was better tahn JU (at least I *think* it was Jeepin... It used to have a button area stylized after a 231 transfer case selector lever...)

Then I found NAXJA and knew this was where I wanted to be. Took me a long time to join up because I was poor back then :D

I think it was late 2000, and the site looked different than it does today. I had a different username back then but damned if I can remember it. I'm pretty sure I read about NAXJA in a magazine (a run with Farmer Matt in the "White Deere" and Goatman among others). Owning an XJ myself, I started reading the site. Then I didn't need to do anything on the Jeep for a long time, and finally registered my current username in spring of 2004, joined in fall 2004 and started posting up fat chicks in the Den shortly thereafter...

I read a blurb in JP about the 20th Anviv. FF.
It stated that you had to be a MEMBER to attend.
I had always wanted to go to Moab, and since I was freshly divorced and unemployed, I thought it sounded fun.
I had to use my moms computer 'cause I did not have a working one, I printed up the membership form and sent in a check.
That was in April of '03, it wasn't until june or July that I even logged on to NAXJA.

I can blame it all on mikedashg. It was several months after the wife and I had bought the XJ and we were looking for groups to wheel with. We ended up at a training session up in Big Bear at the Discovery Center(it may have been the Del Rosa substation). It was a 4x4 certification class with SBNF's OHV program. During one of the breaks I started picking Mikes brain on the mods he had on his rig. He gave ma a SoCalXJ sticker, told me to check out the links on the site. NAXJA was/is one of those links. I ended up a paid member during the process of the SoCal chapter after attending the soon to be chapter's first run. I've been burning money by the bushel ever since.

I'd been driving XJ's at work for years, but they were fleet and I never worked on them. I finally bought my own in 2002. I though, "Yeesh. AMC. I better do some research on this thing. No telling what kind of weird $hit AMC put in there." I typed in 'cherokee forum' and that was all it took.
