Making arrangements for our trip in August.

I have found this link for Tillamook Campgrounds within the forrest:

http://www.oregon.gov/ODF/TSF/camping.shtml

Any input?

Can any locals help us out for good vs. bad decisions?

I have heard there is a County Fair going on in Tillamook the same weekend and it's not worth it to stay in Hotels.

So, where we stayin?

I would also like to know, since I will more and likley be pulling down a tent tralier. Sleeping in the Jeep is my second option. Hotels are too spendy for me. Camping will be cool. Im in for that. And there better not be a burn ban, because camping without a fire is like wiping before you poo, it just doesn't make sense.

Browns camp has a pretty large campground. My wife and I and another couple were there the beginning of May, there's tons of camp sites, pit toilets and there's supposed to be running water, however we never found it, not really a big deal since we had beer, soda, and bottle water anyway. It does get kinda chilly at night, but not bad in the summer.

I wish I could go, but it's doubtful that I'll be able to meet the equipment requirements and start a membership before August. C'est la vie, there's always next year.

If you still want to stay in a hotel, look in Banks. It's no further than the drive from the Tillamook side.

I'm all for sleeping in the back of my jeep. Even made a make-shift bed for it last weekend

sorry to say so, but by august burning will be restricted. I'll check up on that when it gets closer, I drive by the ODF office every day, and I'll find out about if the fire is contained, I have a large metal tub that I use for fires here in the city, haven't had any problems yet

We've camped in Browns Camp before. Nice size campground, lots of space. I think we had TWO campsites and like 8 rigs between us. The spots we got were HUGE. I plan on staying there /w my trailer.

I have my wife playing 20 questions without my participation.

Where is the closest place to find a showerr?
I told her there were none. We would have to go swimming.
What is a vaulted toilet?

What is a vaulted toilet?

Vault toilet is like a permanent Honey Bucket. Concrete or block structure, and a crapper into a storage tank that gets pumped. Kinda crude, but gets the job done.

I was wondering if we needed to reserve a campground area.

Where would accomodate a group like us?

There's no reservations from everything I've found. I would have done that a LONG time ago. ;) I'm going to be heading down on Thursday morning to scout and stake claim. Anyone who wants to join my family is welcome to come along. Will take Friday to run a few trails and explore the general area.

I have the day off (the 10th, correct?) So I'll be able to tag along with you guys that morning, and help on what needs to be done to set things up.

Looks like Im not trailering anymore, the old mans F350 WILL burn 2 tanks on the way down. (8mpg) The last fill up was $97 some odd dollars to fill both of them. $200 bucks in just gas, I can't see paying.

So, tent tralier it is. And that sucks, no fires!

Since Hans and I are not going down to Sierra Fest anymore (it was cancelled for anyone who was not aware).

My family and I will be at NW Fest.
I plan on being there Thursday some time (probably afternoon). I will be bringing the motorhome and towing the jeep. I will make sure that I hook up with Phil and Mark and Jason (and anyone else there) so that we get a few sites neer each other.

I do plan on running a few trails on Friday as well as anything else I can help with the activities.

I can offer to bring an outside shower for those that need a shower and do not mind the sun warming the water.

Unless I can find out where to pick up some type of Portable Shower, you would be a Life Saver.

So. Who is going to let us know where we are all staying?

Can you PLEASE let us know what is available at the campground.

Toilets?
Water?
Power?

I might have offered the shower too early:) You guys might all have to share:)

If there is water available I have no issue with people useing it. If I have to carry my own. I will not be so willing to share, Sorry.

Portable showers (Sunshowers) are available at most camping stores like GI joes, etc.

Don't quote me, but I believe the people who are heading down thursday, were going to chance it, and just look for a spot(s) to camp at. I think the campsites are like $10 a night, and $5? for an extra vehicle. Phil should chime in, he has more info than I do.

I know there is toilets, at least in the place we stayed last. Don't know about water or power. I was thinking about bring a generator, for those of you who need it.

Danielle wants to stay at a camping location close to a River or lake.

I will have to remember to check out GI Joes. Anybody know how late they are open?

Danielle found some at REI online.

You guys really want to camp away from the rest of the group? We're getting a few adjoining sites (if we can) at Brown's Camp depending on how many people go. You can camp where you want, but it just seems odd to me that someone would go to meet a common group and camp miles away from them.

XJCasper
July 26th, 2006, 00:47
No, no, no. We were hoping that the campsite the group goes to would be close to a river or something. If there was an option, we would be staying near a river. We will be staying with the group.
