Can anyone tell me what the four relays on the pass side fender on a 1988 4.0 XJ are for? Actually, I believe I have determined the second one back to be for the fuel pump and the fourth one to be for the A/C.

Got a "no start" out of the Jeep last weekend and could not hear the fuel pump run. I swapped the fuel pump relay w/ the A/C relay and now she starts just fine. Just for kicks I put the original relay in for the fuel pump and she started and idled once for a while and the next time I tried it would die immediately after starting. So I think that relay is not completely dead, just tempermental.

Those relays tend to crap out with age, mostly due to rust. Best bet is to buy a set for a few bux form a wrecker so you have a spare or two. Relay death is a common problem.

This was from a previous post. Front to back
1. Heater
2. Fuel Pump
3. Power Latch Relay ?
4. A/C Clutch

Relays are relatively cheap - buy spares and keep them on hand.
