I don't know much about transmissions, but here's what I have.
The tranny from a '96 2WD, of course, has the transmission extension housing (I've also heard it called the tranny tail cone). Is it a big deal to remove this and install a transfer case? What kind of difficulties would I run into?
Any thoughts?
Thanks!

You'll need to change the output shaft as well as the extension housing, since the 2WD shaft will be too long. That requires a complete tear down and rebuild. I also have a 2WD AW4 sitting in the garage and don't think it would be worth it to convert it for a transfer case. I'm just saving it for a future project, or Woody if he ever gets around to picking it up, since I know he was looking for one at some point.
