Disengaging Emergency Brake

My brake release button broke yesterday. My brake lever is up but my XJ does move with only the slightest shadow of resistance. I was tryting to find a different way to release the brake. How about backing that nut off where the the cable divides to the rear brakes? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just push a screwdriver down the hole on top of the release bar and treat it as you would have with a button.

When you get a few minutes to visit the JY or Dealer, get a replacement.
