Having said that, what's the issue you're having? I've seen a couple of 'dead' XJ hatch locks come back to life with some cleaning and greasing.

I fixed my "tailgate". Just a bit of adjustment on the mechanism and some cleaning and it works like new.

I know you said crapy but I have an extra 97 rear hatch off a dark blue classic in great condition I'd be willing to sell. PM me.
