Beware the New Google Feature! http://www.google.com
If you type your home telephone number into Google's search bar (916-345-6789) & click
the search button, MapQuest returns with a physical location of your
phone number. People could use this feature to locate your home address,
and receive explicit directions on how to get there. Not every phone in
America is listed, but a frighteningly large number are. If you have the
kind privacy concerns that I do, following is the good news.

You can delete your name from this database: to do so, type in your full
phone number - using dashes - like this: 916-345-6789. If your number
appears in the mapping database, an icon resembling a telephone will
appear to left of the entry on the results page. Click on this icon and
it will take you to a page containing a description of the service, and a
link to request your number be removed. After following the instructions,
recheck your phone # to be sure it has been removed.

Actually there's morem to it then that...

It all has to do if your listed or not. If you're listed with an address in the phone book Google will pull you up, if you're not, well, it won't. So if you don't want yoru address (and potentially directions to) public, just have the phone company remove your name from the phone book.

The test will be at 2.00p on Friday :)

another place to search is www.infospace.com

type in a phone number and get an address. it is based on whether or not you're listed in the phone book. usually when I see a vehicle for sale in the paper I trace the number and do a "drive by" to do a preliminary check on the vehicle. =)

Well our number is unlisted so the last person who had the phone number still comes up 815 is very full so they dont leave the numbers inactive very long.

I'd be worried, but it has my house listed so far off from where it really is people would be lost for months trying to find me :D .
