transmition troubles

Hey guys. i got a bit of a problem with xj. maybe you can give me some advice on what it might be. while im driving, as i accelerate to second gear, it seems like it doesnt grab second gear or i loose complete power for a split second. sometimes it jums back and fourth while doing about 60-70mph. i know its not the transmition because it only does it ocationally. i put a scanner on it to see if it could tell what the problem was, but it was telling me that i was in 3 gear when i was in park and when i was in 3, it said i was in o/d. i called a guy at a transmision place and described the problem to him and he said it could be some shift sensor. i think it could be thottle possition sensor but im not sure. if you have any advice please let me know. thanks.

Had a similar problem. Tach would jump erratically at times and engine would rev as if tranny was in neutral for a second or two. Replaced the Throttle Position Sensor(easy) according to factory service manual and adjusted it as specified in the service manual procedure. Part cost about $100 from the dealer and replacement took 15min max. It cured my problem. Hope yours is that simple.
