alternator???

Hi all, first time here.
I have a wierd alternator problem... start it up, voltage shows 12..a few minutes later I hear a click, and the voltage goes to 14...this is happening more and more oftren.
doesn't happen as much when it's cold, ie..first start in the morning is usually ok.
searched all the posts, didn't see an answer...

signed up to Alldata, still didn't see anything....

any ideas?..

Is that reading from the panel voltmeter, or from a separate tester? The panel meter is a notorious liar, and should only be used for a relative state-of-charge indicator...

If you don't have an accurate reading, see if you can get one and post it.

reading is from both.... 14V on the panel is the same as 13.9V on the meter...
when the panel reads approx. 12V, the meter reads 12.1V..


it runs at 12v...then clicks and runs at 14V....I do have a code 41...alternator field....but why is it intermittant?....hmmm....

I had a truck that would do that, would read very low voltage, and I would actually have to go out and tap the alt, to get the brush(s) to seat properly. You may have a sticky brush(s). Just a thought.

That is a circuit breaker turning something off.
What else don't work?

overhead console, compass and temp. indicators don't work...also heating controls lights on the dash, but that's been off for a while...
