Has anyone ever been out to the powerlines here in NJ for Labor Day weekend. Is anyone planning to go this year? I may be heading out there to film a documentary if there is enough interest and am looking for some people to interview. It will be part of a series on wierd and unnusual things in NJ.

weird nj guy I see, there is an abandoned psychiatric institution in my neightborhood, if you go to cruicformed.com, it's under large scale places, and is called "north princeton", it's a very cool place.....I've heard of powerlines trails, but never heard of where they were, or what type of trails they were. Any more info. _nicko_

Ditto.
Are we talking overhead electrical transmission line rights-of-way here, or are we talking ley lines?

There are overhead power lines out there but that's just where it gets it's name. Every year for Memorial Day and Labor Day they have a big 3 day camping/mudding/trail riding bash. I've heard a lot about it but never been out there and am not entirely sure where it's at. When I get more info I'll pass it on incase some of you want to check it out.
You can checkout some pics here: The ones from Mem. Day and Labor Day are out there! http://www.njfourwheelers.com/main.html
I'm just trying to line up some interviews and people to follow through this so it's not all by the hip.
gearwhine: I do go to weird NJ and use their site to find some info but we are a seperate company. I'll check out that site and maybe we'll head up there to check it out! We are always looking for more topics.

What's weird or unusual about a bunch of people wheeling and camping for a holiday weekend?
If you do a docu-drama on this, I hope you'll be careful not to present anything in a way that would give the greenies and anti-wheeling forces ammunition to use against the sport.

That's not the unusual part. The unusual part is that there is no info on it anywhere! The only info is word of mouth. It's not like some of the other annual stuff where you can get information at multiple web sites. It's like it doesn't exist until those holiday weekends. But the number of people that show up is amazing! It's also held on private property of one George Cloon (not George Clooney) who facilitates the whole thing. He has strict rules on who can come or not. From what I hear it's only open to NJ residants.
We will put this together in the best of taste. It's important to me to portray the 4 wheelin community in a good way. It will be handled well! I hope to be able to provide ammo for the sport not against! If I can't portray us in a good way, it won't get made. Either way it sounds like it could be a fun weekend!

Hey whats up! I live right near the powerlines trails. I go out there almost every memorial and labor day. Lately the local police have been giving people a really hard time, even threatening to give $1000 fines. But despite all this hundreds of people still traler in huge trucks and go nuts back there. The trails are located right off the garden state parkway off the lacey twp. exit, around mile 75. Main entrances to the trails are near Wells Mills Park.
The reason this event is very low key is because they try to keep it as low key as possible. The more people that find out the harder it gets to enjoy it out there. The locals can get pretty P.O.'d about publicizing it, especially the chevy boys and heavenly mud crews.
If you need any more information let me know and maybe I can help out.

Cheokee Kid: Do you think there would be any problems with taking a crew of about 4 or 5 out there to film? Do you think people would get into it or would we be asking for trouble? Like I said before, I've never been out there but have heard some of the stories! It sounds to me like it would be fun!

This started out as an "Iron in the Pines" club event held on the Holiday weekend. It's grown over the years...espescially after the rumored ;) wet T contests.
Alot of the guys have fullsize rigs on Rockwells and tractor tires. My neighbor has an S10 on 58's and will be there, dont miss an interview with him..he's nuts!

I'd love to interview him if he's up for it! I'm going to be getting ahold of George Cloon sometime in the next couple of weeks to arrange some of this through him. Being tht it's on his land we have to have his permission to film! If you guys have any info you can pass on to me please do! I'll be looking for XJ's to talk to about there set up (off camera, for personal info), Hope to see you out there.

I'll break something but I'll go if its legal.
Ps- Becareful at North Princeton. Been up there way to many times and have been escorted out by Montgomery's Finest and even the big daddy Staties every single time. They really frown on human presence there. But hell, Ill go anytime anyone wants to!

haha, yellow, you just don't know the skills to be there. :D If you know what you're doing, there is no way you'll get caught. You will get chased of course, but never caught. If any of you guys want to go, let me know and we can plan a little excursion.
If you are wondering what we're talking about, north princeton develpmental center is an abondoned psychiatric institute in a community form. There are at least 30 -40 abandoned buildings, including a hospital (with a morgue) and an electric factory that is absolutely the coolest thing ever. It was shut down in 1998, but looks like it's been abandoned for a century. Most places are locked up, but there is always a way to get in. It's state property, so they are super strict about letting people in there that shouldn't be there. It's something you definitely need to go to if you're in the area....it's quite a scary place at first, plus being scared of being caught by the po-pos. There are a few other abandoned houses in montgomery that are neat to look around.

g2z24, filming shouldn't be any problem, people will probably just assume you are filming for your own personal use. I dont want to scare you or anything but I even got threatened last year for mentioning this event on a JU board. There were actually helicopters in the air circling last year. It is definately somthing that you could make a good documentary off of though. Few people even know the extent of it. If you really wanna get the best footage then wait by the road just outside the entrance and film the pickup trucks hauling in all sorts of monsters, thats the coolest sight ever.

Yeah, I've talked to quite a few people that live around there. I used to live in Waretown (right outside of it for those that don't know) I heard a couple of stories involving the helo's and some fool with a gun! I also know Bill Edwards (Fire Marshall for the Forestry Dep. Yes, Yes that would make him Fire Marshall Bill) He goes out there to ensure people don't have open fires on the ground and that all fires are containeed properly. I guess he gets a lot of shit while out there though! I'm trying to get ahold of the property owner now. If you guys go, I'll see you out there!
