I recently installed a new 6 inch hybrid kit on my jeep and was wondering if i should get a drop pitman arm for it? The steering feels a little looser and if my trac bar is offline would that make it a little harder to turn one way or the other, like if my axle was too far to the left would it make it hard to turn to the left?

What control arms do you have? Have you had an alignment since installing the lift? Did you get a print out so you know what your alignment specs are?

well is your axle too far to the left? Do you have an adjustable trackbar?

I wish there could be a sticky that simply expained the fact to people that you cant lift a jeep and expect eveything to run smoothly, and then maybe it could go on to explain that when you lift a jeep 6 inches you really need a full aftermarket steering setup(IMHO) and you sure as hell need an adj TB

I'm glad someone around you all will align a lifted vehicle... nobody around me will touch my jeep

At 6 inches with inverted y steering, you will probably be happier with a drop pitman arm. (I was). I used a 4 inch drop arm. When I went to high steer inverted t, I went back to stock.

If by harder to turn you mean you have lost turning radius, that is 100 % the track bar.

At six inches you have to do some things to correct steering linkage geometry. Without doing this you are going to have issues, even with the alignment.

Drop pitman arm is a start, but you also have to address the track bar alignment and angle (OAB or drop bracket), and try to get everything close to parallel, Track bar, drag link and tie rod.

Quick question why would you increase the lift to six inches with adjusting the track bar even though you have an adjustable? What else did you not address? Break lines, Drive train???

Guy I now runs the stock stuff with a goferit flip kit. Didn't bother to move the TB mount. Says he can't tell it on the road.

I don't know what you mean by "the steering feels looser". This could simply be a little more sway when turning from the additional lift height. We'd need more info to make any comments about this. There is nothing inherently that would make the steering feel loose just from the lift. The only thing could be a small amount of twist in the tie rod because of the angle of the drag link, but this really hasn't been an issue and shouldn't be on yours.

If the track bar isn't adjusted right, the axle will be more to one side than the other, but as long as the steering wheel is centered this won't affect the steering, and defintely not the feel of the steering. It won't be harder to turn one way than the other. I think you do need the drop pitman arm, but this would be to get a slightly better angle on the steering joints to keep them from binding at full droop, and to help them not wear out prematurely. The drop pitman arm (usually ZJ...3/4" drop) normaly lines the track bar and drag link up better than stock, though this alignment only affects bump steer.

Still, don't know what you mean by "feeling loose".

....And at 6" and no mention of the type of set-up(especially drop brackets)??

What difference does that make to the feel of the steering?
