97 Xj 8.25 Axle Question

Make that 2 questions:

97 Auto w/stock 3:55 is making a clicking sound from it. Jack up hoping that one of the lugs was loose ends up that wheel/tires clicks side to side if you shake it side to side. Both sides are the same when in the air. You can rock the wheel and tire from side to side.

Replaced the rear wheel bearing aprox. 4 mnths ago.?? Whats the deal?


2nd question....does the 8.25's have shims you add in and take out when doing rear end overhaul like the d44s or do you just adjust the preload and backlash with the long chrystler tool from each side?

Yes, they use the long tool. Or make your own.

Only shims they have are the ones for the pinion. They have the adjuster nuts for the carrier.

What kind of shape was the axles in.

fine until i started doing some rooster tails and drifting a little on the farm yesterday. Noticed it today??
