GAS TANK PROTECTION

Is a skid plate necessary on the XJ's with plastic gas tanks ? The plastic looks pretty tough.

if you do anythign besides driving on the street you should have a gas tank skid. the plastic is no where near strong enough. you may get away with taping it on a few things but it will tear and leave you stranded. protect your tank for the sake of yourself and the environment.

Thanks for the input---i've heard the older metal tanks have more ground clearance--is it worth swapping?
