Hi,

I just noticed a slight fluid leak on my front axle. I see fluid comming from the seal around the yoke that goes to the drive shaft. It's not to bad but I would like it to stop. I would say a few (5) drips a day. My front shaft was out af balance and vib'in a way for 30k so perhaps it shook the seal apart. haha

Can I just pull the yoke and r/r the seal?

If so what is the torque value for the nut holding on the yoke.

2000 Xj +3in, new slip yoke on front shaft, no vibes. 60k miles

as always, thanks for your help.

New seal is about $5, but I would suggest an air-impact wrench to get the pinion nut loose. It's not necessary, but it will make the job alot easier. Index the nut to the yoke, and the yoke to the axle housing so when you re-install the yoke and nut you get the same relationship and approx. same torque on the nut. Run a little lube around the inside of the new seal before you put the yoke back in...it'll prevent damaging it until it gets acclimated to it's new home.

Thanks Jeff,
I just bought a seal at the dealer for 11$
Does anyone know the size of that nut and the torque value?

Thanks

This came up in a search...did you ever get the torque value?
