Did they?

So dose it just bolt into the uni body?

I believe they had brackets, similar to the front brackets, that mounted to the same holes as the hitch. It's probably easier to install a hitch and use a d-ring.

I use to have a rear tow hook installed on my XJ. The hook mounts to a bracket and then it mounts up with 3 bolts to the driverside rear frame. Later when I added a Mopar hitch and fuel tank skid. I had to remove it because it was in the way. I got one of thoes hitch mount hooks from Mopar and mounted it on the hitch. Works and looks great.

The factory rear tow hook is for light duty use. If you are really going to do some pulling a class III hitch is the way to go, use a hitch insert and a D ring clevis. The downward facing hook lets the strap fall off everytime.
