Ok I did read the forum/members rules, the bylaws, etc...Now for more questions.
In following the NAC posts and reading the 'equipment needed rules', as well as the necessary equipment for any NAXJA event, concerning stock class, is all the equipment still a must? If I need a roll cage thats not stock for example. Just got a stocker and in time it will improve but struggling just to get it mall road worthy right now.
What are my options for joining NAXJA being a stocker? What is minimal equipment mandated to run stock class? ie: CB radio (recommended), roll bars, front and rear tow hooks (beefy), 20' tow strap, fire extinguisher (no brainer), etc..??
What states are included in the North Atlantic Chapter?
Im plan on joining at some point and do own a xj though its not yet running.
Is the NAC event the bigger and closest event to northern New Hampshire?
Any other closer events that are stock friendly?
Thanks a bunch,
Ken

i really don't think you "have to" have a cage.

You can join up with a stocker - I've got four stock XJ's. I've also been a member here since 2001...
Event equipment requirements are as much for safety as recovery - note the mandating of, for instance, front and rear tow points. Also, the working handbrake requirement. Still, if you don't expect to make equipment happen anytime soon, there's no reason you can't right-seat with someone else for a run or two, just to get a feel for things. Hell, you might even learn something you didn't already know!
Apart from that, I don't recall a lot of "vehicle classes" (I guess I should re-read those regs again!) mainly, because we're not a race sanctioning body. Therefore, the guy with minimum equipment requirements met is just as welcome as the guy who brought the "trailer truggy" - there aren't any points for finishing first, here.
Most of the "required" equipment on the list is stuff you should have anyhow - flashlights, fire bottles, first aid kits - stuff like that, I keep in all my rigs anyhow. I've got to upgrade a few things beyond that, then I'll start going on runs as well (first to go will be that damn Peugeot transmission - I'm tired of changing the thing. The last two didn't last as long as the clutch that went in with them!)

Hi Ken... the bare minimum equipment requirements for NAXJA events are: recovery points front & rear, a visibly-charged fire extinguisher, personal first aid kit, a tow strap (with no metal hooks,)and a spare tire. The vehicle must have liability insurance.
I'd add to the "ought to have" list with:
CB radio, fuel tank and transfer case skid plates, rocker armor, fairly aggressive tires, and being confident that your Jeep is in 'fit to wheel' mechanical shape.
One can have a lot of fun in a stock or mildly-built rig.
Keep an eye on this forum for more event info. There is Mohawk Madness in western MA on labor day, but I'm sure there will be other things scheduled.

Woody beat me to it.
But here's what i have to say
Minimum requirements are just that, Roll cage/bar not needed on stock vehicles, but first aid kit, cb, Front and Rear tow points are a definate and tow strap. As far as the "classes" of vehicle, essentially they mean stock, slightly mod, majorly mod, etc. Per said "class" will require different levels of safety regulations, for instance: you as a stocker would not need a roll cage, where as me being at 8" will be on more of a challenging trail and would need the roll cage. hope this clears up any issues you would have.
As far as what we cover ITS ALOT from nova scotia to Virginia I believe(not sure myself and I know thats bad).
Nac-Fest is the NAC's first big main event added later was Mohawk Madness, these are the 2 big events for the NAC. All of our events cover stock to highly modded, so you won't be bored.

Thanks all. Perfectly clear and makes sense now! So I can join up but just cant participate as driver until I get said minimum equipment? Would love to ride shotgun sometime!! Im not shy about volunteering when and where needed either! Spent time as a County Coordinator for New Hampshire Motorcyclist Rights Org. and as an Events coordinator for my local riding club. All volunteer so no issues there. I just like hands on helping out when I can. You guys ever do any Poker Runs? :dunno:

Fantastic - great to have another in the club.

The other guys above mentioned NACfest (in PA) and Mohawk Madness (in MA), but there have been many occasions that our very active sub-group in MA, NH, ME have gotten together as well. I'm actually surprised they haven't jumped on this thread yet - seeing how you're in their back yard.
It'd be great if you head down to NACFest (or even out to some other NAXJA regions) eventually, but I think there will be plenty of opportunities up in your neck of the woods as well - just keep paying attention here. Ride or drive - you'll have a great time with good people.
BTW, NAC also includes the Atlantic provinces of Canada as well - which is why our Chapter sticker looks pretty much like this early design:

Of course, the real one actually says "North Atlantic Chapter"
Welcome to all of NAXJA, our "little" band of coast to coast XJr's .

Okay I'll jump on this. There is a bunch of us XJers in MA, CT and NH that wheel all the time as a group. They are not NAXJA sponsored events but just a bunch of us going out to have a good time. Things should start happening very soon cause the warm weather. It's going to get a great year to get invloved and start wheeling. My rig always has a open seat if you want to tag along and meet some of us.
We wheel alot with CTJeep, the guys at CAVE76 and Eastern fourwheelers. Everyone is welcome in most runs and we're always looking for new guys to come along and wheel with us. We have newbie runs that a stock XJ is more than capable of doing and hard core rusns that only buggies make it out alive.
PM me for any details.
Also if you need a hand modifing your rig then just ask. We're always working on each others rigs and helping each other out. It's a great group of people up here.

ditto..
i will add that in most of the runs/events i am inolved in/paln/coordinate, we rarely turn away stock vehicles. and that would only be when the particlar area doesnt offer anything "easy" and you're rig's safety and your enjoyment are very important so there will be times when it is suggested you just park it and grab an open seat. my rig is close to done and it seems that everyone is waiting for me to finish so they can go wheeling again, so watch for some stuff in the near future.
and Welcome aboard to another new member!
