Whats the dumbest thing you've ever done while working on you jeep?

I just lifted myself out of my garage, well in my garage. I lifted it to tall to get through the door. Just 1.5" to tall. I loaded my tools and other crap in the back, and ran the winch cable under the axles to the rear d rings and sucked the body down.

Really is one of the dumbest things I have ever done, besides that time in Jaurez Mexico, but thats another story.

Couldn't you just have let a lot of air out of the tires and got it out?

While Herculining my interior, there is an airbag module under the center console, and I decided to read the warning stickker after I unplugged the wire harness so it wouldn't be in the way. It said something along the lines of "only to be serviced by proffesionals, blah blah blah" and my mechanic said If there was any static electricity, I would have set it off and probably broken my arm, since I was holding onto the steering wheel.

Now, as for the stupid things I have done while driving my Jeep...

Now now.. That's what a normal person would have done. :D

Putting on the lift INSIDE the garage and then wondering why it won't go back out of the garage. Genius, sheer genius, there Wyll E. Coyote. That is up there with locking yourself INSIDE the house, and then calling a lock-smith.

Some of that stuff is easy to do, I remember once building a wall unit in the cellar for my daughters upstairs bedroom....

Note to self: always remember to make sure ONE of the demensions allows you to get it thru a doorway....

Which one of these two things is supposed to be the dumb part?

My dumbest move would've probably been about five years ago when I was chaning the oil one night after work. Dropped the oil out, changed the filter, and filled up with six quarts.

When I finished pouring the sixth quart it dawned on me that I didn't remember if I'd put the drain plug back in :twak:

Lucky for me the pan was still there and big enough for twelve quarts of oil!

I've never tried that with the pan still in place. Hmmmmmmmm...

i was building my wifes jeep and ordered tons of stuff to build up her rear Dana 44. bought a detroit, alloy axlex, complete disc brake setup off of an 05 rubicon, carrier, ring and pinion and other stuff, and then when i got ready to put it in i realized she didn't have a dana 44. i was accidently thinking about my CJ.

so i told my wife that the housing was damaged and we had to replace it too. went out and bought a new dana 44 housing.

Did that with an old gocart that had a motorcycle engine in it. Put about 3 quarts in it before it dawned on me that I forgot something.:jester:

I was getting ready for a long drive on my XJ early the next mornig. That night I decided to change my oil and trasnmission fluid/filter. I then proceeded to reverse the fluids and put Transmission fluid in the engine and oil in the transmission. Another clear sign that I might be educated beyond my intellegence.

not on my Jeep, but way back in the day my buddy and I were tuning up his old Honda CVCC (LOF, plugs/cap/rotor, etc.) I drained the oil while he did the plugs and such. He got his work done and asked me to start it up to make sure his work was ok, and I did. Took about 30 seconds for me to see the idiot light blazing in the dash cluster.
(it helps to refill the crankcase with new oil before running )

He ran it another year or so before it died....

What keeps a Jeep from rolling backwards when the the driveshaft is removed?

Nothing.

Luckily I rolled out quick enough, and the slope was small enough and the opposite parking stall was empty.

The other dumb thing is letting your hand slip off a Hi-lift handle under load. Found that one out after I woke up from the garage floor.

OUCH!! That had to feel good. Hit you in the jaw?

Most recent for me would have to be welding my shock mounts to close to the spring perches. U-bolts wouldn't fit. Resulting in a few more hours of grinding, welding, and painting.

Yeah!! Even after reading Haleyes post I still did it. I don't think that I will have to worry about that again though. If my four squirrels break that 8.8 I will just jump right to one ton axles.:)
