Two piece two axle.

I when to the junk yard the other day, and pulled the right side axle from an 88' XJ limited. Got it home, cleaned it up, and put a new u-joint in it, when I noticed it is actually a two piece axle. To top it off, it won't fit because I am know running those fancy axle tube seals. Did AMC slip in a few of these things? Has anybody seen these?

That would have been from a NP231-equipped XJ... they have a vacuum disconnect on the front axle in the '80's that was later dropped. Not uncommon really.
