97 temp sensor in a 89

swapped in a 97 block and header, all renix systems.

does anyone know if moving the temp sensor to the thermostat housing (as the 97 doesn't have the place for it at the rear of the block) will cause the gauge to read high? like 240-250 high?

thanks for any help.

Shouldn't have any issue changing the location. The sensors themselves are a little different, though. Looking at the temp vs resistance charts for 89 versus a 95, it looks like using the 95 sensor with the 89 dash would make it read about 50 degrees to high when warmed up.

You would have to adapt the temp sender (1/8 npt) to the hole (1/2"npt ?)in the t-stat housing and extend the wire.Be sure the sender reaches into the coolant flow for a good reading. It should read cooler at the t-stat than at the back of the head.
