Looks like an AX4 or an AX5. Four-speed manual or five? You should be able to figure out the difference between the two... :laugh3:
If it's an auto, I think it's a TF-727 - but I'd have to check to be sure.

AX5. The Peugeot was only used from 1987 to late 1989, behind the 4.0. You're already invalidated because your XJ predates the I6 they used - but the AMC I4 is also a good engine - there are quite a few who swap the GM 2.8L V6-60 out for it.

Just noticed the leak on the bell housing tonight, so it looks like I will get a initiation into AX-5 Clutch work!
