87 wrangler.. transfer case engages have low and high range.. but front axle wont turn...any suggestions....jim

Vacuum leak.

The YJ Wranglers have a vacuum disconnect on the passenger side of the front axle, similar to many of the early XJs. There's a vacuum "motor" that uses vacuum to slide a collar the engages and disengages the right outer axle shaft. If there's a vacuum leak, either you have no 4WD or the axle is always engaged. You seem to have the former.
