Drilling the shaft for hack and tap ?

I don't have the drill bit that came with my hack and tap SYE. Which drill bit should be best suited for the task of drilling the mainshaft (i.e. cobalt, titanium etc)

Also how long did it take those of you that have done this project to drill the hole?

21/64" bit, Cobalt or whatever will work. The mainshaft isn't hardened in the center so it's not like you're carving through a lot of hard material. http://www.yuccaman.com/jeep/re_sye.html

Also the self starting bits by De Walt are real nice too. They dig faster and will help you along. Just remember drilling metal is not a race, go sloooowwwww

I used a lathe and it took about 20 seconds, but if you put your tranny in gear with the engine running, it'll act as a lathe and make things go much more smoothly.
I've used this method many times and it works like a charm.
Use cooling spray and take it easy and you could have it drilled out in less than 2 minutes.
