Half-Doors?

Does anyone know of any companys that make half doors for the Xj? or do I need to build them my self? I'm looking for something similar to the ones for the Cj's..

Only thing out there is Carolina Rock Shop's tube doors. Anything else would be custom.

I seem to remember seeing something about Tomken making some but can't seem to find them anywhere.

Tomken does in fact have them. I've not seen any pix,though,just the pricing:

4 door fronts are $229/pr
4 door rears are $229/pr
2 door units are $249/pr

It would ALMOST be worth it to buy them instead of going out to the 'yard and buying a pair to hack up myself....if I wasn't so cheap :laugh:

Rev, those arent exactly doors, But could I legally call them that? In my liberal state, if you vehicle is equipped with doors you have to have doors. But Could I consider them doors?

However ...

... what you consider them doesn't count. What counts is what your state's Department of Motor Vehicles considers them. For $250/pair (or more, with shipping), I think I would ask before plunking down any cash.

rev, where did you find latches for your doors, im thinking of fabbing 1/2 doors, maybe even 1/2 soft doors, but i cant find anything to latch them with

I used a fence gate latch, any hardware store will have them.

Just what I would expect after 1 pass with a Sawzall


yes I am planning on finishing them off with some actual sills out of 18ga sheet and some sort of inner frame (1/2" tube I think) to give back some structural integrety.

Future plans are speakers with contact connectors. genuine vinyl to cover the interior portions.

I suppose you just reach inside to open the door when you are outside? Did you have to modify the interior door latch at all or does the cut out not interfer with the mechanism?

All this hubbub about 1/2 doors made me go all crazy and start hacking on mine. :D Anyone have problems relocating the inner handles & window controls (for the rear power wdws)?
