Trans tail swap

I need to know if anyone has or if it is possible to convert a 2wd aw4 to a 4wd aw4 while still in vehicle. I know that the tail sections are different. I dont want to swap the whole trans becase mine is good. So is the tail section interchangeble and what al is involved in doing so. Thanks

I think that it's a lot simpler to swap transmissions cause you'd have to take appart half the transmission to swap the output shaft.
