After several years the donor 87 is back running--sort of.It was purchased for the D44 under it,That was removed and replaced with a D35 and before I got around to move it the 35 was replaced again.Right - Mike in NJ -.
It got new brakes all around, and then it wouldn,t start, the distributor disintergrated (sp) inside. And I gave up on the money hole**** then the son wanted it and started to clean and fix it up,well he got lots of parts for various holidays, birthdays and doing odd jobs,Pulled dist and couldn,t find the notch on the dampner because that was comming apart and eating into the timing cover, which was leaking oil because the seal was rotten.Pulled the rad to make room for the dampner removal and decided to change to a closed rad system.
Got all that done ,and today I put the new dist in and it fired up after the usual cranking of the renix system(gas in it is over 2 yrs old)Didn,t run it long because the oil pressure guage didn,t work. O -the boy had the dash out to put in white face guages and other wiring stuff so not sure if a oil problem or wire problem.
Then there is the puke-goat tranny that will be the next problem-------
So how was your day

My day was pretty good, weather was nice, 55F up here in the pocono's, morning errands in the TJ with the top down, semi-annual hair cut, dropped of two finished puters to customers and bills to other customers, changed the fluids and greased the XJ without having to lay in the mud, snow or ice.
Almost started on stripping and polishing the 5 hole jeep wheels I picked up before they get clear coated again but it started to cool down too quick. Daughter made a double batch of chocholate chip cookies with dark chocolate and brought a small platefull down to my workshop with a glass of milk, now what could have been better than that :D :D :D :D
It was so nice today I'm afraid to go out tomorrow...

A beautiful day in the neighborhood today too.Finished the 10x10 shed and put together a shelf for in it.Moved a few tools and parts in.
Got the 87 to run and called it a day,no cookies, not even a cold beer, grapped a diet pepsi while checking the FSM for proper dist install.
Calling for rain/snow Cold tommorrow. It is Jan. after all.

 on getting the rig runnin'!

I spent the beautiful weather in the junkyard...scored some backing plates and caliper brackets off a 94 ZJ for $10. The rest of the parts were trashed or missing, but the good thing was that the axles were already pulled, so it only took about 15 minutes.

It does look pretty cold out there today...think I'll catch the end of the 24 Hours of Daytona...

Damn Wayne, you still remember that little fiasco? Wouldn't have been a problem as long as you didn't shift into 4WD! :paperwork

(That 35/4.10 was finally sold to a SWB guy just a couple of months ago.)

Congrats on finally getting ole Bessie running!

Today I tackled the "no lights" in the rear prpblem. My son had already removed the panel behind the spare tire and the tail lights,Found one burned out bulb.
So now I had marker lights ,blinkers,Couldn,t test the stop /reverse. and no tag light.
Did I say this XJ was a West Va jeep---Son told me that one of the connectors was warm to the touch yesterday, but I,m looking at the tag light problem,Had enough juice to light test lamp when touched to ground but would not light bulb when wires connected thus indicating bad ground? Traced the wires back and found that the connector in body was the warm one.Pulled panel off hatch and was greeted by a rats nest of wires ,some with electrical tape some with DUCT tape covering them,Not a factory job ---Traced wires from tag light and the ground wire was melted together with all the other grounds and the hot wire to light was connected to the ground, in the place for the tap to the tag light for a Jeep with the opt.outside tire carrier(tag is moved to drivers side of the hatch).Well no wonder the connector was hot that little ground wire carring the entire load of the rear area.
So I pulled the wires apart and routed them correctly but still no ground---traced the wire back to the junction that runs up the side of the hatch and found the Hot wire for the Rear defroster pluged into the ground wire and the defroster plugged into the ground.
Well I switched the wires and bingo it works.
I now have lights, wiper and defroster, didn,t try the gate release.Darn WVa- ers. Now to the front
A cold beer was well deserved.
