i think we have enough people to lead stuff at least around new england. i need some MEMBERS to step up and volunteer to oraganize AND lead some stuff in other areas. how about something in Pa BESIDES Paragon? Western NY? NJ area?
if you are going to volunteer for this make ABSOLUTLEY POSITIVE it is a LEGALLY accessible location.
"we don't get hassled when we go there" IS NOT ACCEPTABLE for a club of our stature (or anyone for that matter). do your homework and we can get it on the schedule.
we could use some long weekend camp-outs for those of us who might like to make a road trip.
if you need ideas about how to handle something like this logistically get ahold of one of the BOD members.

well seeing as no one has come up with a date or place lets start by thinking of any events in areas that would be definate no go's. there is the NAC run on the 8,9,10 of June.

we'll we all know of the situations in CT, how theres no legal places to wheel, im not sure of the situation of the 2 places that were used during the toy run. this spring theres some spots in SW New HAmpshire i'd like to check out but i need to get ahold of PSNH before i drive on any of the power line trails i have in mind.

Rausch creek in PA isn't far from Paragon and has a lot of nice trails. More primitive as well you camp along the trails, etc. Just a thought for something a lil more for the southern NAC folks.

Well, Mike, as much as I really resent :paperwork you NewEnglanders taking over NAC, the sad fact is that you guys are about the only ones left that even have a remote shot at legal public wheeling.
Other than the Pine Barrens, NJ has nothing in that category. And, as weird and as interesting as mucking about in the pines might be, I can't say that it would be worth the ride for you guys from up north.
Eastern and Central Pennsy is just as bad. Sure, there's plenty of open ground in the Poconos and Alleghennies, but, once again, it's trespassing - the type of wheeling that will kill our sport. Paragon and Rausch Creek are great places to wheel, but they also cost $$$.
In the past, we've had NAC runs in George Washington National Forest in Virginia. Wasn't bad - but really far - especially given the price of gas these days. (Same problem with Western Pennsy, or Nova Scotia - for that matter). Western Maryland might have some possibilities, but no one's come up with any.
A lot of us from down this end of NAC would sure like to head into New England (especially above Massachusetts), but the reality of time available always causes hesitation. I enjoyed my little trip up to your neck of the woods a couple of years ago, but even those trails are limited these days, right?
The big question mark (at least to me) - has always been New York - especially the Catskill region. It's sorta central, has the type of terrain that would be practical, etc. etc. We've asked before, but no one has volunteered a solution. It might very well be that it's no better than the Poconos - posted land. But maybe there is something that can be found.
In the meantime, guys at both ends of the chapter should be encouraged to come up with some choices - with no guilt. I know that some people think that NAC is too big - geographically. But, so what? We're all NAXJA members - coast to coast. Chapters boundaries are just a convenience, an excuse to come up with some more local stuff for folks to do, and develop a local support network. The "biggie" events, like NACFest, provide a focus for all of our energies, and have the infrastructure and facilities to deal with a big to-do. I know it's not as convenient for you guys up North, but it is the type of place that will at least guarantee (in fun) the effort to get there once a year.
Hell, some of us have been fortunate enough to go further - like Tellico, the Badlands, and even Moab. Those are trips you will remember for a lifetime.
In the meantime though, we need stuff for this week, or next month, or in the spring. Don't worry about where it will be, just set something up. Those that can make it, will make it, the rest will try for the next one, or the one after that - wherever they feel like going.
And I hope that we can get ALL of NAC energized like you crackers in the Far North!

Todays local paper had an interesting article which may help the Chapter with another alternative. Seems there is a strong possibility of an ATV park opening just above the White's in Berlin NH.
They mention 7500 acres with the potential of 350 miles of trails. I'm thinking an NAC rep could contact and find out the particulars of Jeeps usage within this park. I'm sure there are plenty in the NAC who would volunteer to assist in the park's construction and maintenance in exchange for usage.
I'll see that Stroker gets this article, and i can fax it to anyone else who may want it also.

If anybody would like to go to the pines I know a few places and I know others that know lots of spots too. But deep water gets boring and not many flexing places.

As far as the park that might be available in N.H. that is questionable. Folks might want to go over to NEOW.ORG, and read some of the threads relating to that situation.I havent paid any dues to this org as of yet, but that is forth comming.Anyway,my time is limited,(i'm in an 18 wheeler all week)but I would try my best to be available in putting something together for one day,"non" events. With the price of fuel fluctuating as it is, it might be prudent to have more one day events, than to try and plan a few biggies that very well may have lackluster attendance. We enjoy going hitting the trails, being in good company, and hopefully good food! Remember, mud season can make the simplest of trails the most vexing and flexing there can be.It would also be a good opportunity for those who dont have that much backround to learn more about taking a line, and more importantly driving with your head and not your foot. Sorry for the editorial. Hopefully, we'll meet up with some of you in the near future

i think we are all on the same page and always have been. i will work up a basic schedule and we can add as we want.
in the last year i have seen very little evidence that fuel cost is a real factor "as a whole". with the exception of the few weeks immediately following the hurricanes down south. wheelers will wheel, when there's wheelin to be done. and in reality a day-trip is less econimical than a 2-day camping weekend. basically the same fuel cost for one very long day-trip, compared to a night camping and another run the following day. and it makes the thought of driving a little farther to get there a lil easier on those who arent close by. aside from NAcFest and Mohawk Madness, i will also ad a few large new england events that we run with our EC4WDA clubs (for those who arent afraid to step outside of the safety of NAXJA :gag: )
there is alot of wheeling going on and we'll see when we put it all on the same page.

Somthing comming up called Jeep Fest will be here in massachusetts in the upcomming months. A friend of mine is orgonizing it, it would be great if some NAXJA members could come and wheel. I have a flyer i will scan and post and ill give everyone all the information. Been going on for a while now, i think its the fourth year in now. Should be fun.

I will check out the NEOW.org and get updated but I do only live about an hour from Berlin so if theres anything I can do to help out just let me know. I get Berlins news sometimes in my local daily paper. Have read about the park and am as yet unaware they have broken ground on this project. It does appear most locals in Berlin welcome anything that will aid the local economy in any way.
Anyone from NH familiar with Sandwich Notch? It would make agood ride for a day event or a M&G. Living in the heart of the White Mtns. I do know several great places for day rides on legal roads. A couple of local gravel pits that not many locals can climb, etc..
Even a good simple get together up here would be a fun day. Especially this time of the year (mud) changes things and you never know what to expect in some legal places. I get a chance I will talk to some local rangers to see what im unaware of around here for good Jeeping places. Tons of logging roads around here.
I can and have put on a good poker run for motorcycles and could pick just the right places for a Jeep poker run up here. Its similar to a fifty/fifty raffle except you gotta do some driving and location is most important. I dont think I would have any problem comming up with an all day event poker run for one day and find something else to do for a second day if thats more desireable.
Would be happy to explain a poker run if anyones interested.
Now just gotta get my stock Jeep on the road! !@#$%^&

Well I found out some good info from a friend that has a friend that works for the state of New hampshire. There is a project that has not been mentioned very much about the NH trail system. New Hampshire hired a company to assess the trail systems and come up with a plan for expanding it. There is a ton of old rail lines, access roads for PSNH and unused state land that is going to be involved in the project. The trails will be open to all vehicles, including 4x4's as well as the usual stuff like bikes, horses and all that. About 60% of the trails will be rough terrain intended for "jeep type vehicles" and ATV's, but they will have other trails along them for hiking, horses and biking. The bad news is the project is not slated to start until spring '07 and targeted completion of spring '09. I had the website for the company that did the assessment but I cant find it right now. They had a page with the proposal to the state and everything on it. Also I may have a large piece of private land we could use for wheeling. It has a lot of OLD trails and a few old town roads on it. The only drawback to it is we would have to be very careful not to cross into the WMNP because the property is right next to it. Its a little north of plymouth, NH. It is owned by a family that has been friend with my family since about the begining of time and the only problem I see is getting in contact with Greg, the owner. He travels through europe in the winter so I have to wait until he gets back. This guy is 74 and he is a hiking fool, he said he hikes over 300 miles every winter expolring the country side of what ever country he picks for his winter trip. Well anyway, he is usually back in mid may or early june so I will update when I get in contact with him.

Good to hear, keep us posted. Maybe if nothing else we could get a few semi locals together for a fun day. I think the word of the day right now would be "Mudders"! And I dont have any!
Thanks,
Ken

I found a place in Dennison Me, that rents cabins complete with utencils, plates and bedding. The people who own the place have a Jeep, and have been out and about. He says there are many miles(at least two or three days worth, probably alot more) of logging roads (some still active) and other trails for those who might want to "test" their skills, and or rigs. They do have a common area, for bond fires, and such. The camp is located about three miles from town, which has fuel, a few resturants, and above all, a Napa store. The owner can weld, if something breaks. The only thing lacking is the availability of someone who knows the area.Do we have anybody in that area? AnywayI'd sure like to go up there, Its about six hrs from Keene N.H., and I was thinking assemble up there on a thurs. have a barbaque dinner, if its rainning go into town, do dinner, maybe some spirits. At this point, I'd say a 3' lift min, with 31" tires, skids, and hooks front and rear. From the way it looks, maybe even a nocturnal run if enough folks have the lighting needed for that. Anybody interested? Oh yes my dues is comming shortly!

Vermont has a large selection of "Class IV" roads.. unmaintained by the towns. Usually they run from nowhere to nowhere over some hill or mountain, but the selection is available and they are town highways, so as long as your Jeep is legal (registered, insured) its OK.
Given a good enough map you can string a few together and have a day's run or a weekends worth if you want.
