Most XJ's I've seen did not. The high end radio had tweeters in the dash, the standard AM/FM cassett had speakers in the doors and rear hatch only.

I have a 90 Cherokee. The dash speaker have a bracket to attach to them lower dash. If I remember there were different speakers depending on the year. I have the overhead speakers. I replaced all the speakers. I put three ways in the front doors and two ways in the tailgate and overhead console. The tweeters in the dash were ok. I got a Pioneer AM-FM CD unit with about 200 watts.
