help!!! 96 xj

ok so im going to go and work on a friends 96 xj 4x4 auto( guessing its an aw4) she says that it will start and run fine till.... you put it in gear and than the engin dies. now i havent had a chance to go and look at it yet i just have a few questions about 96 xj's

one i here that they are a nightmare as far as dcx use what ever was left on the shelf.

so is it a obd ii ??

could this be a fule flilter??

and has anyone had symptoms like this

it is odbII..first things
check codes
see if you can keep it going by giving just a little gas (if so possible idle control problem)
This does not really sound like a fuel pump or filter to me, if they are real bad it would also be hard to start. If they are marginal it will show up more so under load than at idle. Any doubts put a pressure gage on it.
