'88 231 into a '96

I am checking to see if a 231 T-case out of an '88 XJ with a 4.0L and AW4 will bolt into my '96 XJ 4.0L and AW4 which originally had a 242 case. I can't think of any reason it wouldn't but I wanted to make sure before I buy the '88 case. TIA.

count the input shaft spline count. some 21 and some 23.

91 and up (HO motors) are 23 spline anythign older will be 21 spline and they will not interchange without a swapping input shafts on the t-cases.

The yoke on the rear DS may be different also.
