Dumb question - distributor removal

What am I missing here? There is one bolt that holds a bracket that holds the disto in place. Do I just pull up on the thing to get it out, or what?

Sorry for the dumb question. Stripping down a 4.0 to send off to the rebuilder.

Yup. Take the bolt out, remove the bracket, distributor will come up. May take some force, and it might help to twist it a bit.

crud buildup underneath it may make it tough to pull out. Since it's going to the rebuilder, spray some engine degreaser down the hole around it (or up from the bottom if you have the pan off) That will soften it up enough to pull out easily.

Thanks guys. Bought the engine used, planning to stroke it. Took off the valve cover and found a lava field of gunk. I'll bet the bottom end looks like that too.

I'll give it a squirt, a twist and a tug.
