I called Dodge/Jeep today and got a price for the rear axle hard lines. I could not believe the price, even though they were no longer stocked or produced. For one (oneside) line 179.00 dollars, I didn't find out the rest I said you can stop right there.

Sounds about right. Went by a shop looking for a small part and asked about a new front DS out of curiosity....$500ish! Basically we laughed and left.

D-C parts counter. home of the $69 rear d/shaft u-joint, and the parts kid that argued with me that the XJ had 2 different size u-joints in the XJ. the right one and another bastard-looking u-joint that was close to 5" cap-to-cap and looked like it went in a 1 ton p/u.

Are we talking about generic hard lines? Just go to an autopart store like napa, get the generic lines with the right fittings and start bending. Theyre only a couple bucks so get an extra one to practice bending. Oh, youll need a bender (hand tool) but IIRC the Jeep hard lines are pretty simple you MAY be able to pull it off w/o it.

we are talking about pre-bent lines from the dealer.

I was making a statement, not asking for advise. Just thought it was interesting that they cost so much and would let others know.

No, not generic lines these were pre bent lines. I'll just swap over the lines from the old D35 to the D44 replacing it.

and to think I balked at paying the $175 for a complete set of prebent stainles lines..

What size lines does an 87 XJ use? Also are fitting on both sides the same?

I need to replace the hard line to my passenger side caliper and need to know length, size, and fittings. The longest I can get is 5', and they only come with both fittings being the same type.

it's a 4.0, D30 non-disco if that matters at all.

I'd not run into the price thing from the dealer till today, called a jeep dealer down near where my current gig is, like 100 yards up the street. Wanted a retainer ring for the passenger side headlight on my daughters TJ. The stainless ring with the 4 screws to hold the headlight in the bucket.....parts counter quoted me $42.... FOURTY TWO FREAKIN DOLLARS. Picking up one from the Help supplier at AA or pepboys, $8...
