Hmmmm...Excessive current draw maybe?
Break out the DMM and track it down.

When it blows....do your taillights also go out?
On the 89' in the fuse panel there is a module called the chime module.This module controls the buzzer or chime sound you here when you have:
left the lights on
key in the switch
door open(maybe)
seatbelt not connected.
Module shold be in the lower left side of he fuse panel.There is a release tab to the left...push the tab,pull the module,and see if the dash lights stay on.Had the same problem problem pulled the module...problem gone.
If you have a Haynes Manual it will show the location of the module.
The module itself is:
@3.0" long
@1.0"deep
@2.5"wide
Should be in a plastic box lookin thing
