Ground clearance, weight, and fitment.

nice piece of fab work, but imho portals are gay. Their is a ton of torque being applied to links and the COG has to be higher than a 60. They are great for ground clearance but it is much harder to work around them, that is why the comp. guys quit using them. Don't take my word for it, this is the "three week jeep", Jake Hallenbeck (competition driver, in case you don't follow rock crawling) built it in his shop and hates the axles. There aren't any lockouts, the lockers don't work half the time, and he broke a .250 wall link from the torque. I will stick to a tried and true dana 60 and 14 bolt if I ever go one ton :p

Not trying to put you down, I just say don't hop on the portal wagon until you do some more research ;) That is nice work on that axle BTW, but I like nolan's high 9 better :D

There is none. Like even and odd, it's just an illusion.

Go get yourself one one, of each.

And, you know, without pics of both mounted up with 5 links, this belongs in mod tech. :D

Seems like a pretty expensive piece to be using stock-style C.A. bushings.

No kidding. May be one of those way more money than experience TJ drivers.

still running stock bushings on my 60 front with long arms. In the years in my garage, they haven't even started to wear out.

Portals are only gay if you can't afford them or don't know anything about them. The COG is lower because the weight of the portals keeps it low. My rig is about 3" narrower and 4" taller than last year and is just as stable on side hills. They are a little more challenging to set up the suspension with but that just takes more thought and planning. Then again, maybe I just don't know what I'm talking about.

I saw your buildup on Pirate and it is very impressive. Very nice rig!

I hope to build a portal'd rig in the future.

To avoid them because they are hard to set up is asinine.
