early Ford HP D44 front axles brake question

onetallmj said:
How hard is it to convert to disc brake set up?

Just throw on the outers from a disc brake set up of later age? or what?

thanks

yup!

most guys throw on everything from the outerknuckle out off a chevy or FSJ with flat tops so they can use high steer to help with driveline angles and to get the steering out of the rocks...

more info here:

they are the ideal axle because they have drum brakes - no one wants them so they are cheaper...

yep, and you'll want to go to Chevy/Waggy knuckles in the process anyway because of the high-steer options. Then choose your bolt pattern 5 on 5.5, 6 on 5.5 or 8 on 6.5 and bolt it up to the knuckle. If you want 6 or 8 lug just use all the factory Chevy outers (or Waggy for 6 lug) but if you want 5 lug you'll use a combination of Chevy and Ford.

So Chevy knuckles from what years for high steer? And what pieces from what year to go discs and 5 on 5.5?

thanks for the info

edit: found it!!
look in the link in the above post DUH!!
