I'm getting ready to move the disc brakes from my 8.25 over to the D44 that I bought. I need to install new retainer plates which means that the bearings on the axle shaft need to be removed and then reinstalled. Is it ok to reuse the old bearings assuming they are in good shape? Is it possible to remove the seals without destroying them? What is a typical price for having bearings removed/replaced?

Thanks,
Scott

I've had to cut my bearings off the D44 shafts to replace the seal. If there's another way, I'd like to know. I think the bearings are commonly known as A10 for the D44. I have the dorky parts guys around here give me bearings for an '87 XJ with D44 rear axle.

You can't re-use the bearing retainer, that has to be cut off. The bearings, however, can be pressed off in a shop press.
