Ebrake worth the money?

I have a basically stock MJ, the e brake didnt work that well, and realized that the rear lines were seized, then found that the front line was "custom" made by the previous owner.

It never really worked that well for me (not al all in reverse)

Was it because of the crap cables? Is it worth me buying all new cables ?

If you like to park on hills...Yes. Especially if you have a stick shift.

In automatics it's nice to have an ebrake for going down STEEP hills

Im saying, will it ever work well enough to hold the truck?

yes, if you fix whatever is wrong with it. I don't know about Maine, but here in Mass they check the ebrake when you bring it in for the state inspection, no ebrake, no sticker.

If all you need is the cables then it shouldn't cost you too much. I got all the rear brake parts (minus the drums) and ebrake parts including the cables for about $200 (shop's cost, Bendix). I think the cables were like $10-15 a piece but I'm not positive.
