Well, last Sunday, I did my first ever diff. service and last night, I did my second. Took me about 4 hours total to do the D30 and 8.25 on my '00 XJ, but I took my time.

Now my question for those of you familiar w/ this process. My vehicle manual (the one that comes in the glove box, not the FSM) states that the D30 should accept 1.5 liters of fluid and the 8.25 should take 2, with the level remaining approx. 1/2" below the bottom of the fill holes. Well, I couldn't get near that much fluid in them before it started running out of the holes (vehicle was on level ground). The front only took about 1 liter and the rear about 1.75, and I verified that w/ the amount I drained from them.

What gives, is the manual that comes w/ the vehicle incorrect? What have your experiences been?

Thanks.

Brian

Fill it 'till it pukes out the hole and call it done. The manual refers to dry fill, no lube in housing or tubes. When you change the diff fluid you will have some left in the tubes, this can account for the difference.
