Unhappy when hot

This problem only happens sporadically... After driving for about an hour and a half at 65-70mph.

After stopping and letting the XJ idle for a min or so it hesitates and sputters when attempting to start driving again. Just replaced CPS, MAP, and knock sensor a month ago. Feels like a timing problem. After a min or so the engine will smooth out and all is well.

Any suggestions?

Just thinking these are the items that control fuel & spark:

MAP, CPS, TPS, Knock sensor, Coolant temp sensor, Cam position sensor/sync sensor, Manifold Air temp sensor, Ignition coil module, and Engine control module (computer)

The Cam postioin sensor is in the distributor. The Cam position sensor uses that big trianglel piece to tell the computer when to spray fuel. I think you could have a distributor with worn bushings and the Cam pos sensor is not working right. The easiest way to fix it is to replace the distributor with a new/rebuilt unit.

It also could be the ignition coil module. It is mounted under the coil. You can buy the coil and Module together or pay more for them seperate, go figure. The module may be getting warm when you stop and it takes a min of engine air blowing over it to get it back to a good temperature.

I have also heard of bad connectors for the CPS. You may want to investigate replacing the connector on the engine harness end. Think there was a post about that recently for Renix XJs, think there is a dealer "repair kit".
