Just put up a small write up which raises the stock transfercase skid where it attaches under the cross member. Many get hung up on this part and then rip out the weak nut inserts so this modification fixes all that. Just a simple idea that I use that might help someone out.
Just go to my site and the how to section under bars and body mods.

Ummm all nice and pretty but...... isn't it simpler to just bend the part that sticks away instead of raising the other end to make it sit flush up front?

You put in a spacer between the tcase and hte skid on the frame end so that it sits flush on the skid sits better on the crossmember side, right?

Did you look at the pictures?

He cut the front (crossmember side) of the skid short and bolted it to the trailing edge of the crossmember pinch seam, instead of bolting it to the lowest part of the crossmember.

Yeah I looked at the pictures and I looked at the descriptions too:
Then drill two 7/16" new holes in it as shown as well as in a 3/4" piece of tube the width of the flat part of the skid. This will raise the skid up enough that the edge fold will be flush with the bottom of the cross member and that the bolt heads are too so cant get hooked up. The photo above shows the piece cut off as well as the spacer sitting in place.
This makes the skid sit well BELOW the framerail like an anchor to be caught on while going over rocks. I like the idea of rasing the front so that it doesn't stick out, but I would have thought that reshaping of it would be more in order to achieve the goal instead of just lowering the other end with a spacer.

This customers XJ already had the spacer welded in long before hand before he had a SYE after ripping out that insert from him over tightening it. When I removed the crossmember spacers after the SYE, I decided to do this modification so he could gain clearance under the cross member which is much lower than the frame rail. Saved me also from cutting out the spacer and welding in threaded plate in its place. I mentioned that on my old XJ I had done this same mod 10 years ago by reshaping the skid and not using a spacer. Dont forget that the lowest part will always be the skid under the transfercase followed by the skid underneath the crossmember and then the frame rail. Thismod at least raises the second lowest point to under the cross member. Even a high clearance crossmember does not alter your height under the transfercase skid one bit at its lowest point. It will always remain the lowest point.
