steering box rebuild (revisted)

so I read this writeup

and was wondering if anyone else had done this rebbuild??
how long did it take??

also the redneck kit is now $115 and a reman box is $150 at Autozone (limited lifetime warranty)

I read that NAPA has a rebuild kit for $50 but Im just curious how much time is involved

I've rebuilt various Saginaw boxes and never really had any problems with the finished product. I always had the Chilton's, steering component manual right beside me. I took my time.
I pulled apart one XJ steering box and most of the balls were flat on one side, decided that one was a waste of time.
i adjusted another, without a rebuild and had it try to lock down on me after it got hot. It worked just fine for the first couple of miles and then got really, really hard to turn all of a sudden. I'm glad the wife wasn't driving it.
I've since given up on home repairs. I keep a spare Lares corp., rebuild on the shelf in the garage.
