Steering squeeks every now and then

Sounds like metal on metal. I just got the xj about 3k miles ago, so i have no idea if and/or when the steering linkage has been greased......i'm guessing i need to hit the zerks with a little grease??

while on this subject, does anyone have any grease recomendations for the front end and driveshafts? I was going to use high-temp red grease, cause that's whats in the gun, should I get a tube of black and use that instead?
Sorry for the hijack. I too have an odd noise occacionally, and need to grease my front end.

Yup, I get that too. Didn't go away after I greased the chassis.
