Does anybody have a stock xj driveshaft they're willing to part with? Mine's bent and I need a replacement soon. I'm located in the bay area, but will be driving up to sac in a week or two. Thanks.

I have got one just sitting here and it can be yours if you can come get or meet me in Sac during the day.

Hey I did remember but it took me a day to figure it out. There is so much going on I forget things all the time. Let me know when you are in Sac and we can work something out.

Maximus, will it work with a chrysler 8.25 & ax-15? If so, I'd like to meet up with you sometime this week. TIA

Hey Rob, if you have a AT DS it won't work, too short. I have one that will be coming off soon, but not soon enough. Neil has my spare one, it's a little bent up but will work fine for a daily driving or at least as a really good trail spare. I'll try to get with Neil tomorrow.
I have a 93' with an AX-15 and 8.25 rear, well I used to, :)

Thanks Chuck, I'm driving back to school in AZ this friday, so I kinda need a strait one, looks like I may be driving out there in front-wheel-drive. How much shorter is the AT DS? if it's just a little bit shorter, will it work on the street (where the rear axle wouldn't be articulating at all?

My bent one should not be a problem at all.
Do you have any lift on your XJ? The slip-yoke engagemant may be an issue with the AT one. You may just hit a bump and then it will fall out or you will mess up your output shaft.

For what it's worth if you're driving through LA, I might have a stock dshaft from ax15np231 and 8.25 in the rear available. It's 29" ujoint to ujoint :D

umm, you don't want to be driving around without a rear ds unless you have a sye. I think I have a couple laying around but don't know what length they are, I think there is a stock 4.0/at/d44 one and a 4.0 auto d35 one.

Don't forget about that one you pretzled! :D

Chuck: I have about -2" of lift due to sagging springs, but may throw on some add-a-leafs to level it out.
Kejtar: Thanks for the offer, I go through bakersfield and then through the Tehachipi Pass. I'd make the detour, but I'm going to make the drive overnight.
Gary: I have been driving it around a bit in front wheel drive, but I cut the bottom off a coke bottle and secured it over the output shaft housing with a hose clamp and rtv sealant. Booty Fab! Yeah!

Since your headed south, you'll have to take 99 instead of I5, Stop at my place, I'll make sure you'll have a rear drive shaft. It needs new joints so I'll pick some up at cost for you. Or vist Kejtar, let me know.

If you're coming down Friday night it's no biggie..... we can make arrangements if need be :D Plus putting on the shaft shouldn't take too long :D as my has the yoke still on it and my ujoints don't look bad either, so it's just slide it on, bolt it up and off you go.

Kejtar & Chuck, where exactly are each of you located? I'll probably try to stop by whoever is closest to my route. Thanks a million.

I'm located in Orange County of 405 freeway and 605 (more or less) Orange County (http://maps.yahoo.com/py/maps.py?Ds=n&uz=90802&BFClient=&BFKey=&poi=&poititle=&BFCat=&Pyt=Tmap&ed=NsubY.p_0TptPWt0dmW3bx_7N6annhzzsoUXLV7QXBgHRTM R76mdZq9Qz66B5xCIRAXEpG5AwuGr2k0GBHkpQ372VsF67fV2n 7fEazoudJ0-&csz=Long+Beach%2C+CA&country=us&mag=7&cs=4&map.x=349&map.y=72) so I'm probably a bit more out of your way for you... but as I said... lemme know :D

Ok, I'll stop by Chuck's since it is a lot closer to my route (and I'll get there at a much more reasonable hour). Friday night may be a little optimistic, but I'm going to still try for it, although I may end up leaving saturday instead. I'm swapping in a '99 29 spline 8.25 and, of course, it's taking longer than anticipated.
Thanks,
Aaron

I'll run by Neil's and pick up the DS. Have it ready for you Friday. As mentioned, I have to get some u-joints from the local store also. They should be less than $10 each.

Hey Aaron, do you still have the slip yoke from your old drive shaft? Chuck twisted the slip yoke like a piece of licorice on this one. If not, I may have an extra one lying around.

I have my old stock slip yoke around here somewhere, or you have it Neil. I'll try to call, I knew there was something I was going to do after work,

I have the slip yoke, but it's got a number of nicks on it from a hammer (desperate roadside removal in the dark). I don't think I'm going to be able to leave tomorrow, so I'm going to try to get an early start on Saturday, how early can I stop by Chuck?
ChuckD
July 31st, 2003, 21:46
Well, Saturday can be a problem, I have Guard Drill this weekend and I won't be home from 7 - 4:30. My wife will be home, but I need a good time when you will be coming by. I'll leave all the ecential tools out, I have a compressor and an air hammer. I find it works the joints out preytty well. So, could you bring joints, I'll have the slip yoke and the DS ready for you. My number is (559) 243-1874 if you need to call.

Chuck, I can drop the drive shaft off tomorrow. If Terry isn't there I'll put it on the side of the house.

Chuck, thanks again for that drive shaft, it got me to AZ with no problems (the t-case is still leaking, but a SYE is in the works). Barely even any vibes, just a little at around 80-95 mph :) . I didn't make it to far after getting that driveshaft in, pulled over a little past Visiala and slept in the jeep at a Shell station. Sorry it took so long to get that sucker in, I can't believe I forgot those straps  . I owe ya one.
Thanks again,
Aaron
