View Full Version : Where to put my CD player?

I just got a CD player for my MJ and can't figure out where to put it. I have wiring for my secondary fuse box and switches running through the stock stereo location so that is out of the question. I want to either put it overhead in the center or in a console between the seats. the only thing is if I put it overhead I have to ditch the sun visors, and if I use a console I will lose most of the visibility of the face. I don't think I can mount this particular CD deck on an angle like a good Pioneer.
Also I have a sunroof which also limits the overhead capabilities.
Any opinions are greatly appreciated.

Alright, well, I solved my own problem. I found a CD player that cost me $120 that will mount vertically. I made a "box" console to put in between the seats. The top of the box in the picture is going to be the back when screwed to the floor. The bottom of the box (as pictured) is a piece of plywood wrapped in carpet that can be removed with four screws.

I will post more pics when I install it.

why not use the factory stereo head unit location?

That is why. If I put it in there with all of the wiring, the heat sink of the stereo would heat up the wires. That and the wires are for my accessories and the hole is blocked off and my switches are there.
Here is the link to my album where I think you can see the switches and the fuse box (which is in the glove box).

Why? Nothing realting to this topic is O.E. or off topic. If not in Mod, where does it belong?

So relocate the swtiches? Those vertical mount ones are useless, ask anyone who was running one in their YJ. One trip to moab or the like will get some much shit in there it won't ever play CDs again.

I decided not to mount it vertically, and I don't think Moab style offroading would be a problem, cause I have never wheeled outside of the twin states region (NH and VT), and never hit hardcore trails.
Thanks for the input everyone. There is a pic on my album.
