I don't follow. Why would he remove the VIN plates just to paint it? Up here, I'm pretty sure that's illegal. You'll have to look in other places that the VIN is placed. Driver's doors, firewall, places like that. I'm also confused about it not being on the registration. How could you have registration papers with no VIN? How do they know which vehicle they are registering? Something is fishy about this...

LICENSE plates...not VIN. He has two vans with no license plates that are identical in color. He's asking for help identifying which plate goes to which van based on VIN information.
Settle down, Beavis. :D

What about youre insurance documents, don't you have to provide both VIN# and license plate to insurance companies?

If you mean plates then look at the paperwork for the VIN number of the vehicle and license number - match 'em.
If it's VINs I'll second Beej's WTF and something fishy.

I would have killed the man had he taken the VIN tags off but thankfully it was just the license plates. I'm looking at the insurance paperwork and I see the vehicle make, model and vin but no plate # WTF?!?
This is the last time I own 2 identical cars............

Have the police run your VIN or plate number. Or you could just put one of each plate on each van and then you're guaranteed to have the right plate somewhere on your vans.

The VIN number HAS to be on the registration along with the lisence plate number.
Are they the smae year?
Again, there HAS to be a way of telling them apart on the registration papers,
otherwise, why bother registering them.

Exactly what Sean said.
The insurance papers will most likely only have the VIN number; the state issued registration paperwork (or titles) will show both the VIN numbers as well as the license plates; then it's a simple matter of cross referencing.

What about the year of the vehicles? Is one older than the other? That should appear on all documents and the date of manufacture should appear on the drivers door or door column.

Thanks for the help. I'm just going to have the police run one of the plates so I can get a VIN. BTW how does one go about asking something like that?
They're both same year & model, 1991 Voyagers.
