Just curious....has anyone ever tried the Dunlop Liberator tires that wal-mart sells. They are a great price, and I know you get what you pay for as well. I'm just wondering what if any experiences people have had with them.

Having used to work at Walmart and in the TLE department (summer drop during college) I can say a couple of things about them. First, yes they are actually a half-way decent tire, very tough and durable, rides like horsecrap because of it though. Has a 45k mile warranty, which is the lowest of any of the tires they carry. Personally I would go with the BF Goodrich tires they carry though. Also, not many people realize it, but whatever brand of tire we carry (IE Continental, Michelin, BF Goodrich, Goodyear, etc) we are able to special order any model of tire that manufacturer carries, so just because all we have is crappy tires in stock doesn't mean you can't have us order whatever ones you want. We don't charge anything to order them, just require customers to pay up front, otherwise we order these tires, get shafted, and have these tires in our inventory that we dont have any tags for. Walmart is also good about pricematching stuff, and depending on who you get, we will pricematch online stuff too including TireRack (i have in the past, always depends who you get) So go forth and get tires!

Pretty much the way it goes with most things. Hadn't you heard? :laugh3:

bustednutz, I would really do some shopping around if it were me. Personally I would rather spend a couple extra bucks to buy locally than go the online route unless you're getting a great deal that way.

I had some of those tires on a chevy truck i didn't think they were to bad. I actually am going to get 5 for my jeep can't beat the price 55 bucks a tire. One thing is that I am pretty cheap, but that all a matter of opinion. HEHE

I bought my last set of Tires @ Sam's Club and all they said was "You're getting 31's for that?" They cleaned up the rims perty nice too. The tires were on sale, the Goodyear Wrangler AT-D2's

My point is just because something cost more don't make it better.
You can buy the same tire at NTB and pay more if you think it's true, that "you get what you pay for."

Ran some on my old S-10 Blazer, they were *great* in the snow, I got more than 45K out of them, handled great on dry and wet pavement, and even mud beleive it or not! I was plenty happy.... Only they wernt Dunlops back then.

I have a set on my wife's XJ. For the price, very nice street tire. Reasonable performance in snow/ice/wet, good road manners. Didn't take a ton of weight to balance. Absolutely no off-road performance what-so-ever. None, not even a thought of having any.

So what you are saying is they are not real good on the trail?
I should not use them if I go 'froading.
I just wanted to make sure that I under stood your comment.

I heard that walmart will not install different sized tires than what is designated on the door... any of you guys experience this?

if that were true I would've been stuck with 215's on my old ranger (which would've been really silly with 7.5 inches of total lift)

they'll install whatever size tire you buy - so long as it fits the rim and the vehicle.

I had the SuperSport HT tires, they were a radial MT 100 bucks a piece for the 31x10.5 mounted and balanced. they were okay in the mud, didn't self clean till about 20 mph, I imagine the 33 would clean out better though, the tread is spaced out more. and the 31's weren't too loud on the highway (the only real noise in the ranger came when I was doing 65 down the highway - I had an alignment problem >_<)

either way - unless I can find a tire like the supersport for less somewhere else - I'll probably get the supersport again, but this time I'll get 33's and they'll be on my jeep.

Think Costco is the one that does that.

I ran the 235 liberators on my 89' xj for about 30k miles. The wear wasn't too bad, but each tire suffered at least 4 flats. I finally got tired of messing with them and switched to Dunlop Mud Rover's in 30x9.50, 20k miles on em, no flats, plenty of tread, grippy as hell, I love em, and they're cheap. Liberator's however, just seem to be weak tires IMO
